Temptation Accepted

It's been a while since I bought this much makeup all together but to be fair, I've probably walked into Target and resisted the liquidation sale in the makeup aisle more than ten times over the past month before I caved. Not that there was anything particular that I wanted to get, but I figured it would be a good time to try out some products I've never considered before the liquidation. The same night, when I walked in to Superstore to help get groceries, there were big yellow signs all taped all around the store stating "tax free". When I went to check out the makeup section, so many items were on sale. TAX FREE AND ON SALE. Girl, you would say I have problems if I actually didn't end up buying anything.

Butter London nail polishes are usually $20, but I saw these two in the sale section at London Drugs the week before for $13 instead so I picked them up. The bright neon orange/coral polish is Jaffa and I have already painted my toes with it but they're camera shy so I'll just tell you guys that the colour is pretty much opaque in one coat, no streaking, and dries relatively quickly. So far so good. I haven't gotten around to using the Matte Finish Shine Free Topcoat, but I'm looking forward to it and will definitely do a post after I try it out.

I'm a blush addict. That's no news by now. I've always wanted to try Physician's Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blushes but never understood why a drugstore brand was so damn expensive. Usually these blushes retail for ~$15 and up. It was on sale at Superstore for $8 and tax free. I had to go home with one. The blush I settled for is called Pink. A very uncreative name for such a pretty blush. This shade reminds me of lipgloss, except for cheeks. It's a really pretty sheer shimmering pink when u swirl all the colours together. Next up, I bought Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso. This shimmery golden peach colour is gorgeous! This has always been on my to buy list and it wasn't on sale, but I picked it up anyways because Milani makeup is hard to find for me; especially specific/popular products I'm looking for. Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Flamingo was a spontaneous buy. I figured I would pick up some more products that aren't carried in other drugstores before Target was gone completely. Flamingo is a bright matte pink. The blush is decently pigmented and the quality of the powder is smooth and soft.

I've never encountered any reviews or bloggers talking about this brand named Pixi. Every time I walked by Target I was always curious, but the products weren't cheap so I never tried it. The palette I have here is the Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Silver Sky. There weren't much Pixi products left, most of them were either open, fell out of their boxes, or opened and tested. I think this particular palette was the last of its kind and it was the silver taupey shade and the shimmering royal blue that I caught my attention. The eyeshadows are super soft, buttery, and pigmented. Why hasn't anyone tried or talked about this yet? I can't wait to do a makeup look using this palette!

Emily has raved about these Sonia Kashuk Shine Luxe Sheer Lip Colors before so when I saw it in the pile, I picked up Sheer Melon. I don't think that "sheer" is the right word to describe these lippies because they are actually quite opaque in nature. I think by far, the most disappointing product I have picked up is Sonia Kashuk's Lip Definer in Pink Whisper, on swatch the colour looks wonderful but the shade barely shows up on my lips. It is too light and not pigmented enough for my darker lips. I'll probably be giving this one away some time in the future.

Lately, the new buzz in the blogging world are these Milani Matte Lipsticks so of course I picked up one. The shade I have is in Matte Innocence. I like how this isn't a deadly nude, the formula isn't dry either but it does enhance all the dry patches on my lips which isn't flattering at all. So some work will definitely be required when wearing this. The last item I have is just the Sonia Kashuk Brow Gel. I've been looking to buy a new brow gel for a while, and was tempted to even splurge on the Benefit one, but I think this does the job well. It blends in my black hair and holds them in place. However, this isn't waterproof at all (not that there are any such claims on the packaging but I felt the need to point that out), when I washed the swatches off my hand, this brow gel was the first to go without even much rubbing. I don't think it's a big deal, but just something to keep in mind! Have you ladies done some happy Spring hauling lately?

Current Favourites #1

Don't ask me why I never started a "favourites" series on my blog but I'll start one now. I know it's not the end of the month yet but I don't think I'll be able to commit to "monthly favourites" since I'm the type that likes to stick to a simple and fail proof routine once I find something good. Plus, I'm on rehab with blogging...but I'll promise to do a favourites post every now and then when I have something new and unmentioned before. Now let's get to the part where I'm crazily obsessive over a few things at the moment.

Aldo Mint Green & Gold Wallet
I've been wanting to get a new wallet for a long time and was originally planning to splurge on a high end one but I was sold when I saw this cute wallet in my favourite colour with a fraction of the cost! The only slight inconvenience is that it's very big and doesn't fit into a lot of my small purses that I like to carry.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer in Neutralizer
When I first bought this concealer, I had high hopes due to the countless raves in the beauty blogging world, but I was really bummed out because the shade was too light for my skin tone. I looked into the mirror with horror because I looked like a reverse raccoon. I left this sitting in my drawers for a while not knowing what to do with it but one day out of the blue I decided to give it a second try and now I love it. Instead of directly applying it on my dark circles (which I leave this important duty to my trust worthy Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach), I use this concealer to do the oh-so-famous Kim Kardashian upside down triangle concealer technique slightly underneath my dark circles and blend it up and out with my Bobbi Brown Corrector. It instantly brightens my whole complexion with its light weight yet high coverage formula.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black
In my Best in Beauty 2014 post, I mentioned that the Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Black is my holy grail. But there has been another liner that walked into my life and I feel like I'm partly cheating on my Dolly Wink liner. I'm so sorry! lol. Lately, I've been using this Stila liner more often because I've been having more lazy makeup days than before. The liner has a felt tip, and though it is easy to work with it's not pointy enough to create the same kind of precision as the Dolly Wink liner. But in all other aspects, this liner is perfect. It's jet black, it lasts all day and doesn't crease.

Hi-Chew Candy
I've been noming on these candies ever since I've discovered their existence. They have officially become my favourite candies. I've been through 4 bags of the regular mix (which contains green apple, grape and strawberry flavour) within the past month and a half. I don't usually buy candy or even junk food but these are so fruity and mouth watering that I can't stop myself once I start eating them. UGH. WHY ARE YOU SO ADDICTING?!

Taobao Ring Sets
Instead of arm candy, I've been obsessed with finger candy. I absolutely adore these cute rings from Taobao because they actually fit my skinny fingers! These rings are actually adjustable and I've been wearing them at least a few times a week when I go out! I always like to accessorize with rings because they are the one type of accessory that is hassle free. With necklaces, I sometimes I feel like I'm being choked; with bracelets...I can never put on the clasps myself unless they are the elastic/stretchy kind.

Apple Ipod Touch
This was actually my birthday present but I thought I'd include it in here anyways. My old Ipod Shuffle was getting really old, and it was becoming faulty - it would skip songs and have glitches. Acquiring this new device also brought out the gamer side of me again, I've been playing Puzzles & Dragons and Tsum Tsum. Anyone?! :D

Formula X Nail Polish in Extraordinary
This mini polish came from The Twenty Two set which I bought a long while ago. I think the name of this polish suits the colour itself very well. In the bottle, the polish looks like a regular light gray but to my surprise, there's a bit of a twist to the colour. Once you put it on you can see that it actually has a really nice blue undertone to it making it a blue-gray instead of a boring gray. Just in case you are wondering, the accent top coat on my ring finger is another Formula X polish in Turbulent.

Addicted to Blush Tag

Other than eyeshadows, the second most accumulated category in my makeup collection would have to be blushes. Thank you Lena for tagging me to do this post! There's just something so captivating about each shade of pink and I can't get enough of it. I also realized that over the years as I got older going through the wear and tear of life, the natural glow of youth in your cheeks start to fade and blushes become your best friend to put some life back on to your face. In this post, you will realize that blush palettes are one of my favourite types of purchases because I get to try a range of different colours from a certain brand for a good deal (I'm lookin at you - Tarte Off the Cuff, NARS One Night Stand, and Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot). Unlike other tags, I found some of these questions more difficult to answer because a lot of my favourites could actually fit into several categories and it was hard to narrow it down to one product for each question. Nonetheless, it was fun and I hope you guys enjoy my picks!

1. What colour blush suits you the most?
As with most typical Asian skin tones, corals and peachy pinks works best with my skin tone. Many (although not all) berry coloured blushes tend to make me look like I'm either drunk, got punched in the face, or just overall unflattering.

2. Pressed/cream/loose blush?
I would always go for pressed because I'm just plain lazy. Most of my blush collection is pressed, and it will stay that way. I do have one loose powder blush which is Maybelline's Mineral Power Blush in Original Rose. It's a very nice natural blush colour, but it's just too much of a hassle in general so I never bothered to get another one. Cream blushes are nice, but they do require more time with blending it out evenly.

3. Favourite shimmery blush?
Benefit Bella Bamba. I never mentioned this in any of my posts before because I lost my touch in blog writing last year, but I got my hands on this Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O'Blushes palette in the past holiday season and I managed to snatch up the last one in store! I settled with Bella Bamba for this favourite because it's a rare raspberry pink blush with very fine golden shimmers that actually compliments my complexion. An honourable mention that I never thought I would pick is the prestigious NARS Orgasm blush. The impeccable golden reflective sheen from that peachy pink blush is just amazing and I didn't appreciate it until now. It's one of those products that slowly grew on me.

4. Favourite matte blush?
ELF Studio Blush in Pink Passion. I got this blush way back when I first started makeup. At one point, it was my daily go-to blush. This is still one of my all time favourites but I stopped using it regularly not because I don't like it anymore, but because I started accumulating a lot of blushes which required me to cycle through my blush collection so I didn't feel like I was wasting my purchases.

5. Favourite cream blush?
I don't have a lot of cream blushes, so this should have been an easy pick but I still couldn't decide on a colour so I'll be cheating on this favourite. I've had these Canmake Cream Cheek blushes for a long time and I wish I got more colours because these cream blushes last all day and they are very pigmented. I only have two colours - 05 Sweet Apricot  is a very pretty coral pink, and it's the perfect blush for the summer tan. 11 Heavenly Heart is a cute baby pink that gives your cheeks a natural dolly pink look.

L-R: Sweet Apricot, Heavenly Heart
6. Favourite drugstore blush?
NYX Pinched. It's a pretty light pink blush with micro gold shimmers. It kind of resembles NARS Orgasm because it also gives that golden reflective sheen (not to the same intensity though) but leans more pink and obviously a cheaper alternative. I would say that this was the first to make me have a different thought on shimmery blushes. When I first started makeup, I steered clear from shimmery blushes in fear of looking like a disco ball, but Pinched changed all of that. The shimmer gives a nice glow but it is so subtle that it's not very noticeable on the face at all.

L-R: Pinched, Angel

L-R: ELF Pink Passion, NYX Angel, NYX Pinched

7. Favourite high end blush?
If you haven't noticed a trend already, this one is easy to figure out. NARS Deep Throat - a peachy pink. I like how the shimmers in this blush is not detectable at all, it just gives the blush an overall satin/sheen. I like how this colour isn't too coral or too pink and is the perfect medium that goes with a lot of looks.

8. Favourite bright blush?
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Crave. Please excuse the weird yellow smudge over my palette. I was attempting to do some DIY the other night and put some names back on to the palette instead of having this annoying plastic sheet fall out of the palette every single time I opened it. It was my first attempt to stick the name back on with some clear nail polish but instead it resulted in a weird chemical reaction, and left this nasty looking yellow smudge so I had to use tape for the rest of the labels. -_-" Anyways, frustration story aside. Crave is a really pretty bright matte pink coral shade that is perfect for the summer months. I was debating between this blush and Ben Nye Nectarine as a bright favourite but ended up settling for this Tarte blush because it's easier to work with. Nectarine more of an orange coral and must be used with a very light hand, otherwise you would end up looking like oompa loompa.

9. Biggest blush disappointment/regret?
This was the easiest question to answer for me as this would be the one and only - NYC Blushable Creme Stick in Big Apple Blush. Remembered when I mentioned about berry colours that made me look like I was drunk or punched in the face? This. is. the. devil. This is a matte medium berry cream blush that just looks unflattering on my cheeks no matter what way I applied or how I tried to work with it. Le sigh. I have given up and learned that this is the type of colour to stay far away from.

L-R: Canmake Sweet Apricot, NYC Big Apple Blush

10. Best blush packaging?
Christian Dior blushes. The compacts are so sturdy and as you can see from the photo below, it has a second layer engraving "CD" underneath the top cover. Inside, you have a decent sized mirror and a soft usable brush that comes with it (at least for this particular blush anyway). There are also engraved patterns on the powder itself which makes the blush so much more classy and attractive. Everything about it is just perfect.

11. What's on your blush wish list?
There's a lot, but I'll just name a few. The infamous Hourglass blushes, in particular I'm looking at Diffused Heat. I kind of regret not picking up the Ambient Blush Palette but I couldn't justify splurging on another Hourglass palette when I had already picked up the Ambient Lighting Palette. I've also been lusting over the Stila Convertible Color in Gerbera ever since Lena mentioned it in her blush tag and reminded me of its existence again. Another high end blush that I can't bring myself to actually purchasing but have always been eyeing are the Tom Ford Blushes. UGH. They're just so damn pretty.

12. Number 1 holy grail blush?
NYX Angel. If you need a fool proof blush that can go for any day and any occasion, this would be my pick. It's a matte neutral to cool dusty pink that goes well with any makeup look that you have on. I've raved about it before and I'll do it again. It gives a nice natural pink flush to your face and goes with many skin tones, if you're in a hurry slapping this on your face is not a problem because it doesn't require much blending attention.

Hope you guys enjoyed my responses/picks for this tag. Let me know if you have done this tag because I do enjoy reading the responses! If you haven't, I tag YOU!! But to name a specific few I tag these lovely ladies: Linny & Monica, Tasha, Sharlynn, Cherie, Michelle, and Vanessa.

Spring Comfort

A few weeks ago, me and a couple of girls from our fashion club - Vanstyle did a Spring photoshoot together in a deceivingly sunny yet cold weather. We were all freezing our butts off but it was fun! It seems like forever since I last did a photoshoot and I feel like it's been a while since I posted an outfit on my blog so here are two spring outfits I came up with but immediately regretted it when I stood in the cold haha. Since this was a spring look, I kept my makeup simple and neutral. Most of the products that I am about to mention is found in my Best in Beauty post. The only exception would be using my Canmake Perfect Stylist Eyes palette in 05 Pinky Chocolate. For eyebrows and eyeliner I stuck to my trust worthy Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate and Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Black. For face, I just slapped on some Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light, and set it with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in 004 Sandstorm. Since this was for a photoshoot, it was a necessity that I dusted and highlighted my face with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder to give my face the flawless and natural glow. For bronzer and blush, I just lightly sweeped on some NYC Bronzer in Sunny and NARS blush in Orgasm.

Sweat pants - Men's H&M, Denim Jacket - Forever 21, Beanie - Neff, Crop Top - Garage, Accessories - H&M and Taobao

For this first look, if you can't tell already I'm the lazy type of gal with my outfits. Most of the time, I seek for comfort over anything else. Therefore I actually styled up an outfit for our Spring photoshoot in sweat pants but skipping out on the traditional scrub look attire (aka the hoodie, old t-shirt, messy top bun, and UGGS - let's save all that for home chilling). Who said you can only be comfortable in the whole scrub attire and can't look cute at the same time? Whenever I have hair problems, I opt for a beanie to make my outfit more put together. Adding a body chain to my outfit also adds some twist to a typical sweat pants outfit. Speaking of sweat pants and hoodies, I strongly suggest everyone going out to H&M Men's section. The sweat pants and hoodies are super soft and warm at a very affordable price! Yes, not only do I like shopping in men's I also tackle the kid's section ;) you never know what you can find.

Cardigan - Zara, Hoodie - SFU x American Apparel, Lace Top, Belt and Tights - H&M, Shorts - Sirens, Shoes - Aldo

For this second outfit, I have continued keeping my outfit comfy with a large cable knit cardigan. Since the Vancouver weather is still chilly and unpredictable, a cardigan with massive holes in them will not keep you warm so I layered up with a faculty hoodie underneath. In case, raincouver decides to be bipolar at least you have a hood to cover your head for the time being. For my top, I have picked out my oldie but goodie white floral lace top that I can never go wrong with. As the famous quote from Miranda Preistly in The Devil Wears Prada says "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking" hahaha.

This wraps it up for my outfit of the day post! Photography credits to Tiana H. I hope you guys all enjoyed my cheat ways of being comfortable but looking cute and put together at the same time. What are some of your favourite ways to cheat a comfy yet cute outfit?

Pinky Chocolate

Of the many times that I went into SaSa Cosmetics while I was in Hong Kong, every time I walked in I always found myself in a dilemma with this Canmake Perfect Stylist Eyes eyeshadow palette in 05 Pinky Chocolate. I debated whether I should get this palette because I already have a similar colour range palette at home waiting for my return - Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette. And of course, judging by the appearance of this post...I have caved in. It swatched so beautifully that I simply couldn't pass it up. The eyeshadows in this palette are soft and smooth with "decent" pigmentation. I put quotations here because this doesn't equate to the eyeshadows being bad; what I'm trying to say here is don't expect it to be the same with say - Urban Decay eyeshadows. If that's what you're looking for, you won't find it in this palette. This Canmake eyeshadow palette has its own way of beauty. It's easy to work with since the eyeshadows aren't overly pigmented and requires you to blend away each time you lay your brush on your lids. This palette is quick and easy to use for an every day look.

Instructional diagrams on the back are nothing new for Japanese branded makeup but I always appreciate how informative yet simple they are :)

L-R: shade E, A, B, C, D

This photo doesn't do the middle glitter shade ("topping jewel" / shade "E") any justice as it appears to be nothing but bits and pieces of glitter chunks on my hand. In real life, the glitter highlight shade is absolutely gorgeous and makes the inner tear duct area of your eye pop. The "base" / shade "A" is an off-white matte shade which is surprising to me because it is very rare to find any matte shades in Japanese eyeshadow palettes. My favourite shadow out of this palette has to be the rose gold "natural style" / "B" shade in the middle. "Bright style" / Shade "C" is a shimmery peachy pink shade and lastly, the "liner" / shade "D" is a shimmery brown shadow with red undertones making this very unique to your typical neutral palette.

L-R: Canmake shade "B", Urban Decay YDK, Canmake shade "C", Urban Decay Burnout, Visee Glam Shade Eyes PK-1, Canmake shade "D"

I compared the eyeshadows in this palette to other shades that I thought might be similar or a dupe. Shade "B"  compared to Urban Decay's YDK from the Naked 2 palette leans more on the golden orange side while YDK is more brown and bronzy. The most similar eyeshadows are shade "B" compared to Urban Decay's Burnout from the Naked 3 palette - I can almost call them dupes. Except shade "B" is more peachy and Burnout is more pink and doesn't have as much noticeable silver shimmers. The last comparison swatch was a total mismatch between Visee's liner shade in Glam Shade Eyes PK-1 and the liner shade in this Canmake palette. As mentioned from before, Canmake's liner shade is quite unique in that its liner shade is a shimmery brown with red undertones while other brown eyeshadows in general are just true browns. Overall, I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. The eyeshadows in this palette are gorgeous! Whenever I'm in a rush I always reach for this palette cause it's so small and compact. If you ever need to amp up your look for a night out you can easily carry this in your makeup bag and increase the intensity with the liner shade.
